Existing Regional Wind Farms
Peetz Table Wind FarmLogan County, Colorado - This project has a capacity of 400 MW and was developed by NextEra Energy Resources (formerly FPL Energy) of Juno Beach, Fla. who owns and operates the wind farm. This wind farm reached commercial operation in 2007 and consists of 267 1.5-megawatt GE turbines. (October 2009)
Cow Branch Wind Energy ProjectAtchison County, Missouri - A 50.4 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital went on-line in late 2007/early 2008. The wind farm consists of 24 Suzlon S88 wind turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 2.1 MW. (March 2009)
Farmers City Wind Power ProjectAtchison County, Missouri - A 146 MW wind project of the Spanish company, Iberdrola Remewables is located near the town of Tarkio. It consists of 73 2.0 MW Gamesa G87 wind turbines. (Feb. 2010)
Bluegrass Ridge Projectnear King City, Gentry County, Missouri - A 56.7 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital. The wind farm consists of 27 Suzlon S88 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2.1 MW. (March 2009)
Conception Wind ProjectConception, Nodaway County, Missouri - A 50.4 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital will feature 24 turbines made by Suzlon Energy. This project was completed Spring 2008. (July 2009)
Loess Hills Wind ProjectRockport, Nodaway County, Missouri - A 5 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group features 5 Suzlon Energy S-64 (1.25 MW) turbines. This project lies within the city limits of Rockport on Agricultural land and produces enough electricity to make Rock Port, Missouri, the first community in America capable of meeting its entire annual electricity demands from wind power. Not sure why this isn't considered a 7.25 MW project, but there you go. This project was completed Spring 2008. (July 2009)
Ainsworth Wind FarmBrown County, Nebraska - This 59.4 MW project came on-line in 2005. RES Americas served as the EPC construction contractor, while it is owned by Nebraska Public Power District. It consists of 36 Vestas V82, 1.65 MW wind turbines. The project is located around 6 miles south of the town of Ainsworth.
Elkhorn Ridge Wind Farmnear Bloomfield, Knox County, Nebraska - This 81 MW project came on-line in early 2009 and is comprised of 27 Vestas V90, 3.0 MW turbines. The project was developed by Midwest Wind and is owned by Edison Mission Group and the Tenaska group, with power sold to Nebraska Public Power District. The wind farm consists of 27 Vestas V90 (3.0 MW) wind turbines.
The Wind Project at KimballKimball, Red Willow County, Nebraska - A 10.5 MW project of the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) came on-line in November 2002.
Blue Canyon Wind FarmCaddo and Comanche Counties, Oklahoma - This is a 74 MW project of Horizon Wind Energyof Houston, TX. This wind farm reached commercial operation in December 2003 and consists of 45 Vestas NM72 1.65 MW wind turbines. The energy is sold to Western Farmers Electric Cooperative. (October 2009)
Blue Canyon II Wind FarmCaddo and Comanche Counties, Oklahoma - This project has a capacity of 150 MW and was also developed by Horizon Wind Energy of Houston, TX. This wind farm reached commercial operation in December 2005 and consists of 84 Vestas V80 1.8 MW turbines. The energy is sold to Public Service Company of Oklahoma . (October 2009)
Weatherford Wind FarmCuster and Washita Counties, Oklahoma - This project has a capacity of 147 MW and was developed by NextEra Energy Resources (formerly FPL Energy) of Juno Beach, Fla. who owns and operates the wind farm. The Weatherford wind farm reached commercial operation in April 2005 and consists of 98 GE 1.5 MW turbines. 41.5 MW are sold to Public Service Company of Oklahoma. (October 2009)
Lost Creek Wind ProjectDeKalb County, Missouri - A 150-MW project of Wind Capital Group is planned to have 100 General Electric 1.5 MW turbines. Ground-breaking was planned for July 2009. Power will be sold to Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. of Springfield, Missouri. (July 2009)
Flat Water Wind ProjectRichardson County, Nebraska -
A 60-MW project that was developed by juwi Wind (formerly JW Prairie Wind Power LLC of Lawrence, KS), but bought out by
Gallop Power of Austin, TX and later
Gestamp Wind North America of Houston (with the parent
company in Spain). This 60-MW
project went on-line in December 2010 and consists of 40 GE 1.5 MW turbines. RES Americas
handled construction, while the power
is sold to
Omaha Public Power District via a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Laredo Ridge Wind Energy ProjectBoone County, Nebraska - Laredo Ridge Wind Farm LLC, a project of Midwest Wind Energy LLC and Edison Mission Group, signed a 20 year PPA with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). The 80 MW project went on-line at the end of 2010. (April 2011)
TPW Petersburg Wind ProjectBoone County, Nebraska - The 40.5 MW TPW Petersburg Wind farm was developed by Third Planet Windpower of Incline Village, Nevada. This project consists of 27 GE 1.5 XLE-ESS wind turbines, the power of which is purchased by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD). In December 2011, Gestamp Wind North America acquired the project The project qualified as C-BED and came on-line date in November 2011.enXco Service Corp. announced in February 2012 that they signed an Operations and Maintenance Agreement with the wind farm. Regional Wind Projects Under ConstructionRocky Ridge Wind ProjectKiowa and Washita Counties, Oklahoma - This project is projected to be a 150 MW wind project of Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy has been proposed for North Central Kiowa and South Central Washita Counties near the towns of Hobart, Rocky, and Sentinel, Oklahoma. The project could be expanded up to 300 MW. In June 2011, Enel bought a 51% stake in this project. The project will consist of 93 GE 1.6 MW turbines, while construction began in Fall 2011. Proposed Regional Wind ProjectsShuteye Creek Wind ProjectAdair, Putnam, & Sullivan County, Missouri - A 400-500 MW wind farm has been proposed for parts of Sullivan, Putnam and Adair Counties by Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy. (May 2009)
Rock Creek Wind ProjectAtchison County, Missouri - A 300-400 MW wind project of Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy is under development. (Nov. 2008)
Cheyenne Ridge Wind ProjectCheyenne and Kit Carson Counties, Colorado - A 300-600 MW wind project of Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy is under development. (July 2009)
Gentry County Wind Energy ProjectGentry County, Missouri - Pennsylvania-based Community Wind Energy is developing a project in Gentry County. (Oct. 3, 2006)
White Cloud Wind ProjectNodaway County, Missouri - TradeWind Energy of Lenexa, Kans. is working on a 300 MW project
located approximately seven miles Southwest of Maryville. They estimate the project
to be on-line in 2013.
Cherry County Wind ProjectCherry County, Nebraska - A 100 MW wind farm filed for
interconnection in the Southwest Power Pool in Spring 2010. The developer and
other details of the project is not yet known by KEIN.
Rattlesnake Creek Wind ProjectDixon County, Nebraska - TradeWind Energy of Lenexa, Kans. is working on a 200 MW project in NE Nebraska near the towns of Allen, Emerson, and Wakefield. They currently estimate this project to be ready in 2012. (January 2010)
Madison County Wind ProjectMadison County, Nebraska - A 100.5 MW wind farm filed for
interconnection in the Southwest Power Pool in early 2010. The developer and
other details of the project is not yet known by KEIN.
Wayne County Wind ProjectWayne County, Nebraska - A 99 MW wind farm filed for
interconnection in the Southwest Power Pool in Spring 2010. The developer and
other details of the project is not yet known by KEIN.
Chisholm View Wind ProjectGarfield and Grant Counties, Oklahoma - Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy has announced that they've reached agreement with Alabama Power Co. to sell the utility between 200 and 300 MW of power from the Chisholm View Wind Farm, which is located 15 miles north and east of Enid, OK and adjacent to Hunter, OK. The project will cost around $400 million and will contribute around $5 million annually to the local economy through land rents and taxes. An on-line date of December 2012 is expected. (September 20, 2011)
Broken Bow Wind ProjectCuster County, Nebraska - This project was originally started by NPPD in 2008 and later awarded to Midwest Wind Energy LLC in 2009 through a bid process. The project is expected to be around 80 MW in size and may be on-line in 2011. (April 2011)
North Fork Wind ProjectKnox & Cedar Counties, Nebraska - This project was developed by Midwest WindEnergy LLC. The project is expected to be around 1,200 to 1,500 MW in size. (April 2011)
Conestoga Wind ProjectCass Counties, Nebraska - This project is under development by Midwest Wind Energy LLC. The project is expected to be around 80 MW. (April 2011)
Burr Ridge Wind ProjectOtoe Counties, Nebraska - This project is under development by Midwest Wind Energy LLC. The project is expected to be around 80 MW in size. (April 2011)
Thayer County Wind ProjectThayer Counties, Nebraska - Aether Energy LLC of Texas has put up two met towers in Thayer County, the most recent one a mile NE of Byron, along Highway 8, just north of the Kansas border. (June 2011)
