Cow Branch Wind Energy Project

Atchison County, Missouri - A 50.4 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital went on-line in late 2007/early 2008. The wind farm consists of 24 Suzlon S88 wind turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 2.1 MW. The Exelon Corporation now owns this project. (November 2014)

Farmers City Wind Power Project

Atchison County, Missouri - A 146 MW wind project of the Spanish company, Iberdrola Renewables is located near the town of Tarkio.  It consists of 73 2.0 MW Gamesa G87 wind turbines and came on-line in 2009. (Feb. 2010)

Bluegrass Ridge Project

near King City, Gentry County, Missouri - A 56.7 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital. The wind farm consists of 27 Suzlon S88 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2.1 MW. This project is now owned by Exelon Corporation. The power from this wind farm is sold to Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Columbia Water and Light (who buys power from this project for $67.76 per megawatt-hour. (November 2014)

Conception Wind Project

Conception, Nodaway County, Missouri - A 50.4 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group and John Deere Capital will feature 24 turbines made by Suzlon Energy. This project was completed Spring 2008 and is now owned by Exelon Corporation.  (November 2014)

Loess Hills Wind Project

Rockport, Atchison County, Missouri - A 5 MW wind project of the Wind Capital Group features 5 Suzlon Energy S-64 (1.25 MW) turbines. This project lies within the city limits of Rockport on Agricultural land and produces enough electricity to make Rock Port, Missouri, the first community in America capable of meeting its entire annual electricity demands from wind power. Not sure why this isn't considered a 6.25 MW project, but there you go.  This project was completed Spring 2008 and is now owned by Exelon Corporation. (November 2014)

Lost Creek Wind Project

DeKalb County, Missouri - A 150-MW project of Wind Capital Group is planned to have 100 General Electric 1.5 MW turbines.  Ground-breaking was planned for July 2009.  Power will be sold to Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. of  Springfield, Missouri. (July 2009)

Proposed Missouri Wind Projects

Shuteye Creek Wind Project

Adair, Putnam, & Sullivan County, Missouri - With development starting in 2008, this project was originally planned as a 400-500 MW wind farm for parts of Sullivan, Putnam and Adair Counties in Northeast Missouri by Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy. In April 2012, it was announced that this project was being terminated because it was "increasingly evident that the wind energy market in Missouri will simply not develop in the foreseeable future given the lack of interest in wind energy in the state", according to TradeWind CEO Rob Freeman.  (April 2012)

Rock Creek Wind Project

Atchison County, Missouri - A 300-400 MW wind project of Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy is under development. (Nov. 2008)

newBarry County wind project

Barry County, Missouri - In 2007, Wind Capital Group of Jefferson City, Missouri proposed a 50 MW wind farm near the town of Exeter. At that time, 30 turbines were planned for 16 properties. As of 2010, the project was still active and had a meteorological tower up and running, but had yet to secure financing. A WCG official noted that the wind speeds at this location were not as robust as those in NW Missouri, but they still hoped to market the project. (October 2012)

newCass County Wind Energy Project

Cass County, Missouri - A 75 MW wind project entered the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) interconnection-queue for Cass County in 2010. This project was in the Missouri Public Service utility service area with a proposed on-line date of December 2012, but was later withdrawn. More information on this project will be added as it is accessed.
(September 2012)

newClinton County Wind Energy Project

Clinton County, Missouri - A 99 MW wind project was proposed for Clinton County Missouri, though nothing else is known about it at this time.
(February 2014)

Gentry County Wind Energy Project

Gentry County, Missouri - Pennsylvania-based Community Wind Energy is developing a project in Gentry County. (Oct. 3, 2006)

newMill Creek Wind Farm Project

Holt County, Missouri - This is a ~200 MW project of Element Power of Portland, Oregon. Several Holt County wind projects have entered the SPP interconnection queue since 2009, varying in size from 149 to 300 MW. Currently, only two of these projects are still active - a 151.2 MW project that entered the queue in 2010 with a proposed on-line date of June 2012 has a fully executed Impact Assessment and a a 150 MW project that entered the queue in 2013 with a proposed on-line date of December 2015 that is currently in the Feasibility Study stage. Both projects are in the Missouri Public Service utility service area and are likely related projects. In January 2014, it was announced that KCP&L, a large utility based in Kansas City, Missouri, signed a 20-year PPA for 200 MW of wind from this project (as well as a 200 MW project in Coffey Co., KS), starting in 2016. Construction is expected to begin on the project in the Fall of 2014. In September 2014, it was announced that this project is no longer viable due to the large presence of migratory birds in the vicinity of the proposed wind farm.
(Sept. 2014)

newJasper County Wind Energy Project

Jasper County, Missouri - Two 150 MW wind projects entered the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) interconnection-queue for Jasper County in 2009. These projects were planned for the Empire District service territory with a proposed on-line dates of December 2014 (150 MW) and December 2015 (150 MW). Both projects were later withdrawn from the queue. More information on this project will be added as it is accessed.
(September 2012)

newMonroe County Wind Energy Project

Monroe County, Missouri - A 300 MW wind project was proposed for Monroe County Missouri, though nothing else is known about it at this time.
(February 2014)

White Cloud Wind Project

Nodaway County, Missouri - TradeWind Energy of Lenexa, Kans. is working on a 300 MW project located approximately seven miles Southwest of Maryville. They estimate the project to be on-line in 2013.
(January 2010)

newPutnam County Wind Energy Project

Putnam County, Missouri - Two wind projects filed for interconnection with the MISO regional transmission operator in 2010 for Putnam County. One project was 150 MW and the other 200 MW. Nothing else is known about it at this time.
(February 2014)

newHigh Prairie Wind Energy Project

Schuyler County, Missouri - Wind Capital Group is studying a possible 31 turbine project near Queen City in Schuyler County. The plan as of June 2011 was for 31 GE 1.6 MW wind turbines, though the make and model of turbine could change. The Department of Defense ruled that they had no objection to this project.
More information on this project will be added as it is found.
(September 2012)

newSullivan County Wind Energy Project

Sullivan County, Missouri - Nordex USA is studying a possible 146 turbine project near Humphreys in Sullivan County. More information on this project will be added as it is accessed.
