Energy Terms and AbbreviationsAWEA - American Wind Energy Association DOE - U.S. Department of Energy DSIRE - Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency EIA - Dept. of Energy, Energy Information Administration EPA - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency EERE - Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, division of DOE EREN - Formerly the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network, now known as the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, a division of DOE FERC - Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy KCC - Kansas Corporation Commission KEC - Kansas Energy Council, see SERCC. Disbanded December 2008 by Executive Order of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. KEPCO - Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. KDHE - Kansas Department of Health and Environment KDOT - Kansas Department of Transportation KGS - Kansas Geological Survey kwh - kilo watt-hour, an electrical unit equaling one kilowatt of power over one-hour. KREWG - Kansas Renewable Energy Working Group, a group formed around 2002 to promote study and bring awareness to renewable energy issues in the State. It became obsolete and defunct by 2004 when the State Energy Resource Coordinating Council (later known as the Kansas Energy Council) was formed. LANL - Los Alamos National Laboratory MARC - Mid-America Regional Council MISO - the Midwest Independent System Operator, the independent system operator of the electric transmission grid in the Upper Midwest, including Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. NETL - the National Energy Technology Laboratory, a research division of the U.S. Department of Energy based in Morgantown, W. Virginia and Pittsburgh, Pa. The focus of this lab has historically been heavy on fossil energy, including coal and carbon sequestration, though they do work in many areas of energy. NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce NRC - Nuclear Regulatory Commission NREL - National Renewable Energy Laboratory, division of DOE NWCC - National Wind Coordinating Committee ORNL - Oak Ridge National Laboratory OSTI - Office of Scientific and Technical Information, DOE pdf - Portable Document Format. SERCC - State Energy Resources Coordination Council (of Kansas), a task force formed by Executive Order of Gov. Bill Graves in 2002 and continued under Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as the Kansas Energy Council. Provides annual recommendations to the Governor and State Legislature on legislation to improve energy production and decrease energy consumption. SPP - the Southwest Power Pool, the independent system operator of the electric transmission grid in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. |
